Important Hummingbird Program to air on PBS on January 10, 2010
PBS is going to air a Nature episode entitled "Hummingbirds: Magic in the Air". The film was produced by Ann Prum and features work by Doug Altshuler on hummingbird flight, Chris Clark on hummingbird sound production from their tails, Gregor Yanaga's work on hummingbird insect-catching, Van Remsen's and Nancy Newfield's work on migratory hummingbirds, and Ethan Temeles' work on Purple-throated Carib niche partitioning. The cinematography is fantastic, and the film also includes the display of the Marvelous Spatuletail and ground-foraging by Andean Hillstars (they literally hop from flower to flower). You can see a preview by clicking here (don't miss this!).
PBS also sells DVDs of their Nature episodes, so let us hope this one will be available for purchase shortly.
Please let other hummingbird lovers know about this episode. Those who have seen previews say it is one of the best nature films.
