Descriptive text about image: A relatively large bird, 13-14 cm; male weighs 7.7-8.5 gm, female 6.7-7.5 gm. Highly territorial. Found at elevations of 1700-4500 m (roughly 5600-14,800 feet). Note bluish violet ear plumes, which are elongated. Found from Venezuela down through the Andes.
